Orleans Bowling Center Goes Solar

David Currier to add solar power to both his home and business

The quickest path to saving energy dollars on Cape Cod is to invest in a solar energy system. While this is true across all of Massachusetts, Cape Cod residents and business owners are finding solar is an especially good deal to ward off rising power costs.

Recently in Orleans, MA, David Currier looked at ways to save operating costs at his Orleans Bowling Center. Recognizing the big impact a properly sized system would make on his business’s bottom line, he determined it was a good deal for his home, too.

According to David:

Electric rates aren’t going down. And those big companies don’t like making less money.

Not all Cape Cod business is seasonal. David’s business is recognized both for his well maintained bowling facility and also his year round BBQ restaurant on site! Because his business operates year round, he is expecting the solar power production to help minimize his monthly purchasing needs from his utility Eversource. And because of incentives, Orleans Bowling Center will also enjoy other benefits:

  • The business can enjoy the full 30% federal tax credit available through the end of 2019, before the scheduled reduction.
  • He anticipates estimated savings of $600,000 over the next 25 years – an eye opening amount for a small, private Cape Cod business. These savings are aided by offsetting demand from his utility and the payment schedule of the SMART program. Learn more about Massachusetts Solar Incentives.
  • It will stand out from some of the others across the Lower Cape, Upper Cape, and Outer Cape as taking the next sustainability steps and going green with the business.

David’s family has owned the building since the 70’s. He takes special pride in adding solar to a location his family has been operating for so long.
